Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie

So I ate something earlier this week that caused my eczema to flare up again, and to calm down my immune system I turned to my cupboards to find a solution. Aha TURMERIC! The holy grail of antioxidants from the East! So I warmed up some water, threw together some fresh squeezed lemon and turmeric, took my first sip and spit it right back out. It was DISGUSTING! I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that. Turmeric has a musky taste to it so I knew it wasn’t going to taste anywhere near as good as the smoothies I’ve been spoiling myself with but I knew I shouldn’t have to sacrifice taste for health.

So I looked into my fridge to see what I could come up with and this was my creation:

 

Ingredients

1.5 cup frozen mangoes

1/2 teaspoon Turmeric

1/2 Tablespoon grated ginger

1/2 Lemon juice squeezed

1 Tablespoon ground Flax Seeds

1/2 cup Almond Milk

1/2 cup water or GREEN TEA for an extra boost of immunity

1/2 Tablespoon Agave Nectar or Honey

1/4 Cup Ice

                

Benefits

Turmeric

Composed of anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, Turmeric has shown to prevent infection and reduce inflammation in the body associated with joint pain and arthritis.

Ginger

Great in alleviating symptoms associated with stomach problems such as gas, bloating, and cramps. Ginger has also shown to be beneficial in reducing the accumulation of body fat and cell growth retardation in cancer cells.

Flax Seeds

Packed with omega-3s from alpha-linolenic acid, Flax Seeds help to regulate cholesterol levels and reduce inflammation.

Mangoes

Full of vitamins A, C, and E, Mangoes can aid in fighting off colds and free radicals. Not to mention they contain large amounts of fiber to help aid in digestion.

  1. This is soooo great! I shared it on my blog. I don’t have all the ingredients yet, but I will. I do smoothies every morning and I like to do the same thing for 1-2 weeks at a time….this is my next one :)

    • Aw thanks for the pingback Audry:) I hope you like it. I was almost afraid people would be afraid to try it because of the turmeric and ginger. It really does blend well together with the mango though. Let me know how yours turns out!

        I love ginger and I turmeric doesn’t have much of a sharp flavor unless it’s fresh which taste almost like a radish. But blended with fruits should be fine, I can imaging the flavors that’s why I was so excited!

    • Let me know if it helps! I would say drinking it once won’t show immediate signs of improvement, like say steroid medications would, but for a more natural remedy that’s easy on the body I would say 1-2 times a day for about 4 days should help :)

    • It was much tastier than just the turmeric and water by itself lol that’s for sure. Hope it helps Shannon:) L-glutamine powder also is great for boosting the immune system and healing the gut. I just bought some to put in my smoothies :)
